Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage in the United States. And in Austin, there are plenty of ways to enjoy this festive occasion. Here are a few of our favorites!
Enjoy Authentic Mexican Food
One of the best ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo is by indulging in authentic Mexican food. Austin has a thriving food scene, and you can find plenty of restaurants serving up traditional Mexican dishes. From street tacos and ceviche to margaritas and micheladas, there's something for everyone. Check out places like ATX Cocina, Fonda San Miguel, Suerte, or Masa y Más for some delicious, authentic food.
Attend a Festival or Event
Austin has several Cinco de Mayo festivals and events that take place throughout the city. Mexic-Arte Museum is hosting a “Taste of Mexico” event that invites guests to generously sample cuisines from over 50 of Austin’s most eclectic and exciting restaurants and food trucks. You will also have the opportunity to taste authentic fine tequilas and mezcals. This event is taking place Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Fair Market. Fiesta Austin is also putting on an event that pays tribute to Hispanic history, heritage and tradition. Full of culture-rich dancing, live music, arts and of course lots of great traditional Mexican dishes, this event is taking place 10am-11pm on Saturday, May 6.
Get a Drink!
What better way to celebrate with family and friends than with a cold drink! Hotel Vegas & Volstead in East Austin are hosting a Cinco De Mayo Extravaganza where you can listen to live music from Mariachi Mexico Lindo Austin, and enjoy free tacos (with purchase of a featured drink while supplies last).
